What we collect, what we share, and how to change your choice.
≈2 min · Quick reference
Short version. Before They Build is a read-only civic handbook. You do not need an account. Anything you save — plans, evidence, meeting notes — is stored only in your browser, on your device. We never see it.
Analytics are opt-in. When you visit the site, a small strip asks whether we may load third-party analytics. Nothing loads until you choose Allow. If you choose Not now, no third-party script is ever added to the page for that visit.
What loads when you allow analytics
| Provider | What it receives | Cookies |
|---|---|---|
| Google Fonts | Loads two typefaces (Source Serif 4, Caveat, plus display/UI faces) from fonts.googleapis.com. Google receives your IP address and browser details when the font stylesheet and files are fetched. No cookies are set for anonymous font requests. | none |
| Meta (Facebook) Pixel | Pages you visit on this site, IP address, browser and device details, referring page. | _fbp, _fbc |
| Google Analytics 4 (when configured) | Pages you visit, IP address (anonymized), browser and device details. | _ga, _ga_* |
| Microsoft Clarity (when configured) | Anonymised page interactions to help us find broken layouts. Order and download pages are excluded. | _clck, _clsk |
Where analytics never fire. Regardless of your choice, we do not load analytics on /orders, /download, /admin, or /receipt pages. These stay private.
Where your work lives. Plans, evidence, meeting notes, and drafts are stored only in your browser, on your device. Clearing your browser storage will delete them; the My Record page offers an export so you can keep a backup.
The contact form opens your own email app with a pre-filled message; sending it is up to you.
Change your choice
You can revoke your consent at any time. This clears the analytics cookies dropped by the providers above and reloads the page so nothing else is sent.
If we ever add features that change what loads on this site, we will spell out exactly what changes — in clear, direct terms, on this page, before the feature ships.
